Map Program Locations

Interactive Mapping Tool Help: Basic Tips

The map is based on layers

  • Layers are geographic data sets that can be turned on and off.
  • Community outreach program locations are the basic layer (what is visible on the map). This layer is visible when the map is first opened.
  • Additional layers can be added on top of the program locations, such as school district, legislative district, congressional district, city council district, and census data. For example, you may want to see program locations and then layer the legislative district boundaries over the program locations to see which programs are located in the district.
  • There are two types of layers: visible and active

Visible layers

Layers
  • Visible layers are what you can see on the map.
  • To make a layer visible, select the box to the left of the layer name. A check mark will be displayed in the box.

The active layer

  • An active layer is a layer you can interact with and get information about. For example, if you want to click on a program dot to find out more about the program, one of the community outreach program layers must be active.
  • To make a layer active, select the circle to the left of the layer name. A filled-in circle denotes the active layer.
  • Tools apply to the active layer.
  • Only one layer can be active at a time. When a layer is selected as active, the previous layer is automatically deselected.

Seeing all program locations

  • All Programs is the visible and active layer when the map is first opened.
  • This layer shows the locations of the community outreach programs listed on the ASU in the Community website, organized by impact area (education, environment, health and wellness, etc.).
  • Only programs that are submitted with a complete address are displayed on the map.

Disable pop-ups

  • Disable pop-ups to use the HyperLink and Print tools.
  • To temporarily disable pop-ups only as needed, hold the Control key (Windows) or the Command key (Mac) while selecting the HyperLink and Print tool buttons.
  • To disable pop-ups the entire time you are using the mapping tool: In Internet Explorer version 6.0, from the Internet Explorer menu, select Tools, then Internet Options. Select the Privacy tab, uncheck the Block pop-ups box, click OK.
